Why Should Your Church Start On Time?

I pastor a predominantly Black church in the urban north of Oakland, California. There is a state apathy being manifestly allowed to undermine the local church worship. We have made a custom of starting late. This treacherous trend is not worship in “spirit and truth” (John 4:24).

Mythically and historically, African American led churches are notorious for starting late and holding long. Brethren, these things ought not be! I make a case for church services starting on time every time. Here are four (4) primary reasons why your church should start on time.

  1. Teaches that all things will be done decently and in order (I Corinthians 14:40). Order is God’s strategy for increase.
  2.  Invites the Holy Spirit into an atmosphere that has considered Him and prepared for His presence (Acts 2:1).
  3.  Maximizes the time that has been devoted for worship, instruction, prayers, giving and the fellowship of those who attend (Acts 2:42).
  4.  Encourages members to invite guests with a certainty that their guests will experience a spiritual and professional ministry (Luke 14:23).
