Mothers Have Favor

“Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favor with God” (Luke 1:30).

Mary must be the most celebrated mother in history. No mother has had as much riding on her motherhood as Mary. No mother has ever carried in their womb “God come in the flesh”. No mother, but Mary was ever given the charge to raise a Savior. The motherhood of Mary is the most important model for mothers who want to birth and raise children that belong to God.

Motherhood according to the Mary narrative is all about the purpose of God in the earth. Motherhood is for divine design. Motherhood is a feminine gift. Motherhood is meant  to influence the direction of the next generation. Motherhood is a calling from God.

Mothers have favor. This is the first grace God gave to Mary. “Hail, thou that art highly favored, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women” (Luke 1:28). Mary’s motherhood began with the favor of God. Favor is the grace of God that supplies and sustains our successes.

Everything Mary was going to need to be a mother was hers before she ever held baby Jesus. The angel ministered the encouragement and the equipment she needed to conceive, give birth and shape the early years of Jesus. She was “favored” and “blessed”! That’s all it takes to do what God has called you to do. That’s all it takes for you to be who God wants you to be.

Whatever anxieties and insecurities that motherhood can pose, a messenger from God with a word from God took away the fear. Favor conquers fear. Fear is for people who do not have a word from God. Mary was graced for the upcoming challenges of motherhood. She had a word from God. You too have a word from God – “Fear not, you have found favor with God!”

Happy Mother’s Day!  May the Lord grant you high favor!
